Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year! July 29, 2021 Dear GES Families, Welcome to, or welcome back to GES, Home of the red-tailed Hawks! I hope you had a relaxing summer. We have eagerly anticipated the full reopening of our campus, welcoming approximately 475 students for in-person instruction this school year, while a small group of students will participate in our Independent Study program. Our teachers have worked hard to prepare themselves and their classrooms for the new school year. Gustine Elementary Teachers are experts in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and they have exemplary lesson plans to provide our students with rich learning experiences. The TK-2 grades will focus on the fundamentals of learning, specifically the basics of reading and mathematics, while 3-5 grades will focus on taking the foundational skills to the next level of learning as well as focusing on more complex mathematical essential standards and practices. This year we have hired an elementary physical education teacher to provide daily robust PE classes to our students in grades 1-5. In addition, we have enhanced our differentiated instruction by providing ELA and math intervention instruction daily, which will include enrichment opportunities for our students who meet or exceed grade level essential standards. We will closely monitor student progress and we will gladly share these results with you. FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is Wednesday, August 11, 2021. It’s a minimum day for all grades. Dismissal is at 12:40PM. Masks will be required in indoor areas for all staff and students (except while eating). Anyone with a fever of 100.4 or higher, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or exposed to a person with COVID-19 should not go to school and should contact the school’s main office. Please mark your calendars for our Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 4:00PM-6:00PM, where you will meet our staff and receive important information from your child’s teacher. See enclosed flyer for more information. I am looking forward to another wonderful year at GES. Our staff at GES is excited to be working with you and your child. We strongly believe that a partnership with our families is crucial to the success of our students. I welcome you to involve yourself in our school in a variety of ways. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance to you and your family. Together, we can make this school year a success! Sincerely, Alma Romo Principal
Dear GES Families, As we conclude 2020, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who make Gustine Elementary School an amazing place to be. This school year has been quite different. Covid-19 forced us to make drastic changes to the educational experience since March 18th. Closing the school, holding on-line classes, cancelling traditional school events and not seeing each other in person has been challenging. However, we will continue to demonstrate diligence, motivation and determination to do our best to support each child at GES. We believe in the success of all our students and we will continue to provide the best instruction towards their success! Many thanks to the GES teachers who dedicate themselves day after day teaching our students their essential standards, effective strategies, as well as kindness and respect. Our classified and other certificated staff have also played a vital role supporting the daily operations of the school. I could not be more proud of all our staff. A special thanks to our parents and guardians, who transformed their homes into temporary “schools” and balancing their child's education, while working from home. I also want to commend our essential working parents who continue to perform their duties, while also making time to support their children during distance learning. On behalf of the entire staff, we want to wish our parents and students a safe and joyous holiday season. Remember to practice universal safety precautions in all that you do, whether traveling or staying home. “Happy Holidays,” “Merry Christmas,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Happy Hanukah,” “Happy Kwanza” from Gustine Elementary School!
